Hi Matthew. Thanks a lot for your comments - appreciated. If nothing else, this site is living proof
that old punks tell better stories than old hippies! True ones, I hasten to add...

I really enjoyed your site. I love reading about Perth's music history and it's very hard
to find any information about the subject. Hippy parents don't make for good story tellers. Oh,
and I love the design.

Thanks, Max (or is it George?). Yes, the SPAM in the Guestbook is a constant annoyance. I clear the
Guestbook of all that stupid crap daily, but I can't keep on top of it. I have installed
junkeater to try to stop it, but that program has been of little benefit. I really don't know
what to do about the SPAM problem, other than apologise. Cheers!

Hi Mitch, and thanks for your comments. In answer to your questions:
1. James Baker did the count-in for The Geeks' "I Like Iggy Pop", and I'm afraid
I'll have to plead guilty to the Hitler Youth count-ins. As you say, count-in duties usually
went to the guitarist in 77 punk bands, and in this the Hitler Youth were no exception.
2. The "line-up" on Orphans Revisited is mostly me, myself and I. I'm glad you
saw fit to pose the question, though, because I went to great pains to get as "live" and
authentic a sound as possible. James Baker asked me who the drummer was, so I hope that suggests
that my efforts to "de-technify" the drums were not in vain! I referred back constantly to
Max's original drum parts on the old Orphans recordings, and tried to get the sound of his kit
as close as possible. I also adjusted the levels of individual drum beats to try to simulate a real
drummer getting excited. The distortion pedal on the Revisited recordings was the same one as I used
in The Orphans. I did the multi-track analogue recordings and the more recent Hard Disk additions 15
years apart, adding bass parts to the analogue recordings (which were just vocals, guitar and drums)
and in the cases of Teenage Lust, Face At The Window, Sister Claire and Cool
Bodies, I recorded them from scratch using HD recording software. Again, though, I used the same
distortion pedal and drum sounds, and kept the mix as free as possible of effects. For these more
recent recordings, Lloyd contributed vocals in the verse openings of Cool Bodies, and on Face At The Window. I have to own up to the vocals on the rest of the Revisited tracks.
3. Well, I must confess that Sister Claire did actually exist. She was a nun I did a teaching prac
with before I dropped out of the course. I regretfully admit that the rest of the song is complete
fantasy, however.

Hiya, Bought the Geeks/Hitler Youth and Orphans CDs a week or so ago. Enjoying both of them,
especially songs such as I wanna be slick etc, Epileptic Love, High School Girls. I never saw The
Victims, Orphans, or Hitler Youth etc but I vaguely recall being at a Geeksrehearsal in the Wembley
Scout Hall c. April-ish 1977. I remember Rod Radalj sitting on the sidelines coyly playing sax - so
coy in fact I couldn't hear him even when the room was quiet! I guess (apart from being
Lloyd's brother), my other tenuous connection to this site is the fact that I auditioned as the
Victims' guitarist at Dave Faulkner's abode sometime in 1977. At that stage he had been
primarily a keyboard player with other bands, and I had previously met him and Neil Fernandes (later
Manikins guitarist) at Murdoch University in late 1975 when we swapped a few musical titbits on the
cafeteria piano there. Obviously I didn't get the Victims job - Dave took on the guitarist job
himself. I saw the Cheap Nasties once (at the Stoned Crow in North Fremantle); also the Manikins and
Scientists many times in the late '70's. I also saw the Scientists c.1983 when I thought
they had moved into much more of a swamp sound than their earlier relatively (James influenced?)
poppy style albeit with punk trappings. But... back to the CD! Qu: who does the count-ins on the
Geeks/Hitler Youth songs? From my recollection of the 1977 Punk Way it was usually the guitarist who
took on this role. So is it shared around with the Geeks/HY? Second question: what is the lineup on
the Orphans Revisited? Ross, are you doing the singing? Third question, who is the nun the Orphans
singer was referring to? She sounds interesting... Good site Ross; I tap into it regularly. Cheers
Mitch Peasley

wired, thanks for your comments. Looking forward to your comments on the CDs. Bloo Day, I'm
working on the Geeks lyrics at the moment. Some I will be able to post, and others may remain
submerged in the murk, unless James Baker and/or Lloyd can dredge the deepest reaches of their
memories and retrieve the indecipherable lines. Cheers.

Yeah, agree about the Orphans lyrics. But any chance of posting the Geeks lyrics as well? Luv the
CDs, but can't make out a lot of the lyrics of the Geeks songs.

Those Orphans lyrics are pretty sick, man - and I mean "sick" in both senses of the word.
Have ordered the CDs - will post my impressions when I've heard them a few times. Oh, sick
site, too. :0

Stooges rock. Birdman rocks. That's where I'm comin from, so no surprise that I luv yr
site. Didn't know all this was going on in Perth in those dayz. Wish the CDs were both as good
sound as Orphans Revisited, but they are bloody great punk anyway. Just proves again, the earliest
punk was the best. Heil Ig. Heil you kindred spirits in the west. Drinkin to yas wit The Geeks on
full.
